A Little E3 Knowledge for You

download (3)

One Of the biggest weeks in the gaming calendar is upon us. The Electronic Entertainment Expo or “E3” as it’s more commonly known is in full effect right now. Starting off with Bethesdas conference yesterday  and continuing through out the week. We have seen Microsoft bring in some huge exclusives, EA showing off the future of Need for Speed and their many sport franchises. Ubisoft showed off a new ip but more on all of these at a later time. Nintendo’s press conference starts off early Tuesday morning and after that we will see developers and creators showing off the greatest and newest tech innovations. This ladies and gentleman is where the future is revealed.

The formation of E3 started long before the first expo in 1995, in fact they say that 1991 was the year that truly put the plans in motion. Huh 1991 was the year I was born. Coincidence? I think so. In 1991 the Consumer Electronics Show was the largest expo of its kind, featuring all the new innovations in electronics including video games. The only problem is that the people of CES never took the gaming industry serious and always treated them like their little brother, sticking them in the corner and in 1991, they were placed in a tent. A tent I tell you! Plus just to visit their area you had to pass by all the porn vendors. To me that sounds like a win. But not to Sega, they had been mad about always being treated like second class and that year finally put them over the edge. After a long day of pouring rain the tent leaked water all over their new Genisis system and infuriated by all the mistreatment and we’ll water down sagas, Sega didn’t return the next year. And soon after everyone else followed suit.

Now I could throw out a bunch of company names and association abbreviations so I’ll just skim through it quickly. This set in motion the first Expo which debut in 1995. Sony opened huge with the unveiling of the first Playstation. And the rest is history… well no lots of stuff happened. 1996 was the announcement of the gargantuan Nintendo 64. 1997 they showed off some of the biggest games in history such as Unreal, Half-Life and Metal gear Solid. They also showed off what is now known as one of the worst games in history, Superman for the N64.  1997 showed us the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Duke Nukem Forever. 1999 brought us into a new generation of systems with Sega’s Dreamcast and Nintendo’s Dolphin aka Gamecube. By the way I loved Super Mario Sunshine for the cube… I played that constantly. In 2001 the GameCube finally went public and so did Microsoft’s first entry in the console game, the Xbox. Oh and a little ol’ game called Halo: Combat Evolved made its way to the stage. You guys get the picture. Every year something bigger and something new and amazing came out. Well this year shouldn’t be any different.

2015 shouldn’t be any different. E3 has come along way from 1995. We are now working with graphics and gameplay so realistic that it would blow 1995’s mind. So far the announced games include:
